A wine from the Algarve with the title of governor of the Ottoman Empire can only be exceptional! The Quinta do Outeiro, where Paxá is produced, is in Silves, a historic town with a winemaking heritage that dates back to the Arab occupation. The passion for producing Paxá wine is shared between father and son in this family-run business, which uses gentle techniques to highlight the region's unique terroir. The mild climate and proximity to the sea provide this clay-limestone soil with exceptional conditions, evident in every sip of Paxá wine.
At the winery, you will find various wine-tasting options. The first allows you to sample three wines without a guided tour. The second option includes a tasting of three wines, a small board of snacks, and a guided tour of the area where Paxá wine is produced.
Wine tasting is in a traditional Algarve house, where the production method and the wine's history are explained. A visit to the Quinta do Outeiro winery lasts approximately 90 minutes and can be booked online through the Paxá Wines website.
This is yet another wine produced in the Algarve, specifically in Lagoa. In mid-2024, the winery was acquired by four friends of Portuguese and Irish descent, who promised to honour the legacy left by the previous owners.
A father and son built this estate vineyard in 2007, leading to Quinta dos Vales receiving numerous awards over the years. Karl Heinz Stock, a retired banker with a passion for wine and the arts, aimed to produce wines in small quantities, ensuring that only exceptional quality reached the market. Throughout the vineyard, you will find sculptures designed by the former owner, adding colour to the winery.
Quinta dos Vales offers a variety of experiences, ranging from simple wine tastings to the personalised production of your own wine through the "Winemaker Experience" programme, where you can oversee the entire production process and take home your creation.
The wine tastings are organised into four options. The first, the "Solo Tasting," allows you to visit the winery without a reservation and sample one of the tastings available on the terrace, overlooking the vineyard.
The second option includes a guided tour of the winery, complemented by a guided wine tasting.
For those wishing to deepen their knowledge of Algarve wines, Quinta dos Vales offers the "Bottle Blending Workshop," a three-hour experience where you will learn to blend your wine, gaining insights into winemaking and the opportunity to take home a bottle of your creation.
The fourth option is designed for groups of at least 15 participants and includes a tasting menu paired with the Quinta dos Vales wines, along with a guided tour of the winery and vineyards.
This winery, spanning 44 hectares, welcomes visitors all year round from Monday to Friday. Book your experience at Quinta dos Vales online and enjoy the best that the Algarve has to offer.
This winery is situated between three municipalities in the Algarve: Lagoa, Monchique, and Silves. Its bottles have a distinctive identity, focusing more on sharing the vision of the winemaking process and the lands where the grapes are cultivated than on promoting the brand. Indigenous grape varieties flourish in the clay-limestone soil, revitalising the tradition of a region that has long benefited from its exceptional terroir. You will find some of the Algarve's oldest vineyards here, along with a 2,000-year-old olive tree that serves as a focal point for various events. Under the canopy of this ancient olive tree, gastronomic gatherings occur, providing breathtaking views over the Negra Mole vineyards, a native variety of the Algarve.
Following the wine tasting and pairing, the experience continues with a guided stroll through the Morgado do Quintão vineyards. Every day at 4 pm, you can join a wine tasting that includes a vineyard tour, a sampling of Morgado do Quintão wines, and the chance to savour a platter of cheeses and cured meats from local producers. Discover how to book your wine experiences at Morgado do Quintão.
Although the name may sound masculine, reflecting the pioneer of this family project, it is currently three women who are realizing the dream of João Maria Alves, better known as João Clara, along with his son Joaquim João. João Clara’s daughters and wife continue his vision of producing internationally award-winning wine. Since the 1970s, the winery has cultivated grapes from various varieties, including Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, and Alicante Bouschet, in red clay, sandy, and clay-limestone soils. Spanning 30 hectares, the winery offers wine tastings from Monday to Sunday. The timings are from 11 am to 5 pm from Monday to Thursday and from 10 am to 5 pm from Friday to Sunday. This wine pays tribute to the Roman and Arab heritage that has shaped these lands, as reflected in the names Villa (of Roman origin) and Alvor (of Arab origin). In 1835, Frederico da Paz Mendes, Viscount of Rocha de Portimão, promoted agricultural production in this region. However, it was not until 1990 that João Mendes began producing wine after inheriting the southern part of this winery. In 2019, Aveleda S.A. acquired the vineyard in the Algarve, continuing the legacy of quality wine production that thrives between the mountains and the estuary.
At this winery, the indigenous grape varieties Negra Mole and Moscatel Galego Roxo are particularly prominent. These and other varieties can be sampled from Monday to Sunday on a terrace overlooking the Villa Alvor vineyards. Three tasting options are available, each featuring a selection of wines. Additionally, you can choose to enjoy charcuterie and cheese boards to accompany your tasting. Discover how to make your reservation here.
