Algarve wines

See, smell and taste the magic of Algarve wines. A visit to the Algarve's wine cellars will give you an experience that appeals to all five senses. Dedicate your next holiday to discovering this region and toast the moments spent here.

Paxá wines

An Algarve wine with the title of Governor of the Ottoman Empire can only be a great wine! Quinta do Outeiro, where Paxá is produced, is located in Silves, a town with a history and references to wine that go back to the Arab occupation time. Today, this passion for wine is shared by father and son, who are responsible for the excellent wine production in Silves. The family has used all of their winemaking skills, employing mild winery procedures to cater for the region's unique terroir. The mild climate and proximity to the sea provide excellent conditions for this clay-limestone terroir, which is confirmed with each glass of Paxá wine.

Taste the wines at this winery by simply booking online for the day you want. The tour starts at the winery, with the winemaking methods and wine history explanation. Next, the tasting will be in a traditional Algarve house and finally, a tasting of three top wines of your choice, accompanied by fish pates, bread and olive oil from the region.

The visit to the Quinta do Outeiro winery takes about 90 minutes, and there are four tour dates per week.

Marquês dos Vales

This is another wine made in the family. Father and son aim to produce in small quantities to obtain a wine of exquisite quality. Quinta Marquês dos Vales has been in the hands of Karl Heinz Stock, a retired banker with a penchant for wine and art, since 2007. Along the paths of the farm, you can admire several colourful sculptures of contemporary art, one of the attractions that make many people visit this farm. Another attraction is undoubtedly the quality of the wine produced here, which has won several awards.

Visiting the Marquês dos Vales winery can be done in many ways. There are more complete options where you receive an oenologist's explanations during the wine tasting, or you can just drop in spontaneously. Sample some wines in the shop and stroll through the winery's colourful gardens.

The 44-hectare winery is open for tours all year round, from Monday to Friday.

Morgado do Quintão

Located in the middle of three municipalities in the Algarve, between Lagoa, Monchique and Silves, it is known for not being afraid to put art and artistic visions about its wines on the labels. The bottles have a unique identity where the main idea is not to advertise the brand but their vision of the whole winemaking process and the land where these grapes grow. The autochthonous grapes thrive on the estate's clay-limestone soil, reviving the tradition of a region that once benefited from the terroir's circumstances.

This winery has some of the Algarve's oldest vineyards and a 2000-year-old olive tree. Gastronomic meetings are held under this tree, harmonised by 3 to 4 wines. Lunch is followed by a stroll around the vineyards with an explanation from Morgado do Quintão team.

This group experience (minimum 4 people and maximum 12 people) lasts two hours. For children and young people up to 17 years of age, admission is free.

João Clara

The wine has a Portuguese male name due to the pioneer of this family project, but today three women make the dream of João Clara and Joaquim João, the son, come true. João Clara's daughters and wife, as he has always been called, continued the dream of having an excellent wine with international awards. Since the 1970s, grapes of different varieties, from Syrah to Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira to Alicante Bouschet, have been growing on red clay, sand and clay-limestone soils.

The 30-hectare winery promotes some wine events that you can find on the João Clara website.
